Doctors at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, New York were about to remove organs for transplant from Colleen S. Burns, 41, whom they thought was dead. Then she opened her eyes. She was alive. Burns had been in a deep coma from taking an overdose of drugs. Hospital personnel failed both to wait long enough and to conduct enough tests to determine death.
