Campaign to End UNWANTED Medical Treatment (UMT)

There is a new website supporting the Campaign to End UNWANTED Medical Treatment (UMT).

In a nutshell, the campaign is about "Patients, families and their advocates deserve and demand all the information necessary to make informed choices about their treatment preferences and expect that healthcare professionals and institutions honor their wishes."  See here for a toolkit, issue brief, and lawsuits.

Supporters and collaborators include:

  • ABA Commission on Law and Aging

  • Center for Medicare Advocacy

  • Compassion & Choices

  • Consumer Coalition for Quality Health Care

  • Elder Justice Coalition

  • Medicare Rights Center

  • National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys

  • National Academy of Social Insurance

  • National Alliance for Caregiving

  • National Association of State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Programs

  • National Caucus and Center on Black Aged

  • National Hispanic Council on Aging

  • OWL – The Voice of Midlife and Older Women

  • The Gerontological Society of America

  • The National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care

  • (And, as demonstrated by my 80-page legal review of the issue earlier this year, I also support this campaign.)
